Since the release of the first Black Ops game, its campaign has consistently stood out as one of the better installments in the Call of Duty series. Black Ops 6 continues this trend with a unique twist: experimentation. From the very first mission to the end, players are taken on a high-octane ride, true to COD’s history of high-action campaigns.
This time, however, the developers introduced some new elements inspired by other franchises, giving players a fresh experience.
One standout mission, “Emergence,” is considered one of the best campaigns in the entire Black Ops series to date. Inspired by games like Control and Atomic Heart, it brings a new level of excitement and innovation to the series.
Overall, the campaign in Black Ops 6 surpasses previous games, offering players engaging locations, characters, and solid gunplay.
It also allows players to make choices on how to approach their objectives, adding a neat layer of strategy. Some missions provide a semi-linear experience, encouraging exploration and discovery of new areas and loot.
After the prologue, players are introduced to their safehouse, which unlocks different sections such as the Weapons Bench, Gear Station, and Training Areas.
Each section must be unlocked using cash obtained from loot. The Weapons Bench allows players to spend their loot to upgrade skills and abilities, with each skill having multiple upgrade levels.
Players can interact with various characters in the safehouse to learn more about them, adding context to the campaign.
The Evidence Board is used to start the next missions, giving players the choice to focus on main missions or explore other areas.
Black Ops 6 enhances graphical fidelity, even on medium-high settings. Using DLSS or FSR, players can achieve improved performance without compromising visual quality, and using quality or balanced modes offers the best of both worlds. This time around, omnidirectional movement improves the multiplayer experience, enhancing traversal and movement.
Although I experienced some black screen and random crashes on my PC during multiplayer sessions, these issues did not occur during the campaign, and my system did not overheat during gameplay.
The Zombies mode is particularly enjoyable, and I highly recommend playing it with a proper squad. Finding and upgrading weapons while defending against large hordes of enemies with teammates is incredibly fun.
I discovered a few Easter eggs that unlocked powerful weapons for my team, which made defeating bosses a breeze. The bosses are well-designed, though there are too few of them, which is a bit disappointing.
My only complaint is the outdated and cumbersome UI, which requires constant restarts to process updates. Switching between the main menu and the campaign menu is a time-consuming process that feels unnecessary.
